January 26 to January 30th

This week is National Lutheran Schools Week....as a school we take on the task of “Raising Faithful Disciples.’  Because of our calling, Jesus asks us to share this faith.  It is our primary purpose in life to go and make disciples for Him.  The family of God realizes how special and significant it is to be faithful to this calling and opportunity to share the Good News of God’s love and His plan of salvation.  We also have an opportunity to participate in Spirit Week with our cheerleaders and basketball teams.  If you have the opportunity, go out and cheer our boys and girls teams to victory.  Good luck, Chargers,...go reckless, play loose, and have fun!!!!

 I am also trying to do my best with the 8th graders and to get something accomplished with them before starting our research papers.  I am starting 1 or 2 days earlier than normal to update them on the changes to the MLA format that is now being used.  A major syllabus should be coming home with your children on February 6th.  Please pray for no more delays or cancellations.  We desperately need to get back to a normal routine.

During the next couple weeks in English, I will be doing some practice writing tests with the 6th and 7th graders for ISTEP preparation. The 8th graders will be starting the research papers so no time.

A permission slip will be going home this week in preparation for our trip to the Allen County Library to research information for our research papers....please sign and return...permission slips due by Monday, February 9th.....thanks!!!

Monday…..going over our test from Friday....answering questions.....start Ch. 14 on indirect objects and Pattern 3....notes....teach core parts....do 1 example on the board for themn...     

Tuesday....IO jingle and review of jingles needed for ISTEPS....a little review of noun....adjective....adverb clauses....assign 1 P3 sentence to do for homework....

Wednesday....IO jingle.....vocab words 21-22-23-24 for Monday....grading 3rd quarter vocab words next week......notes on Ref. Box 146...assign C.P. #41 and do exercises 1 and 3......

Thursday.....practice the IO jingle....correct the homework....notes and review of active and passive voice....will be on the test.....assign C.P. #42 and do exercises 1-3-4....

Friday….finish vocab cards and be ready for me to grade them....practice the IO jingle...correct the homework....start 43 A in class....assign parts to do and give work time.....possibly finish it????

Monday....DOL....practice the Sub. Conjunction  jingle and transition word jingles...finish going over the homework on poorly written paragraph….assign C.P. #38 A and do core parts only for assigned work....daily grade tomorrow...

Tuesday....DOL...review of jingles........correct the homework….daily grade…..do the Chapter 8 and 12 checkups to prepare for the test on Friday....exercises 2-3-4 and sentence #1 in Ch. 12 for question and answer flow.....groups of 3 or 4 to help each other....

Wednesday.....finish up the work for the Chapter 8 and 12 checkups

Thursday….no DOL today….review of 2 jingles for ISTEPS…...correct the Chapter 8 and 12 checkups and review for test tomorrow....make sure 3rd quarter vocab cards are all done....will be graded next week sometime....

Friday…..Chapters 8 and 12 test today.....vocab done and ready to be graded?????

Monday…..DOL…..review of sub. conjunction and transition word jingles for ISTEP prep...correct Chapter 5 checkup and review for the test tomorrow....vocab cards done and ready to be graded.....

Tuesday…Chapter 5 test today.....be thinking of which possible presidents that you may want to write on....pick later this week....

Wednesday..... doing a practice ISTEP writing practice test today in class and will be brought home to finish up.....work time 25 or 30 minutes to finish at home.......then I would like the parents to read the prompt....read your child's writing of the prompt....please sign and add comments on how you think your child did on this practice test......bring back tomorrow done....very important!!!!

Thursday.....spending the class period going over our practice ISTEPS together.....discussing strengths and weaknesses.....sharing time to improve our skills....

Friday....beginning a major writing assignment on a president.....purpose to prepare for ISTEP tests.....7 or 8 paragraphs on the president selected....most of the work begins on Monday...will draw today for which president will be assigned to each student......
